On Saturday 30th November, Clevedon Gig Club held a 'rowathon' in the shop windows of Spinning Weal on Hill Road, Clevedon. The aim was to row as far as we could in 12 hours on two rowing machines. The total 24 hours rowing was split into half hour slots, with 48 rowers each taking their turn.

A 'guess the distance' competition was held: for a pound a guess the entrants had to guess the total distance we'd row, the winner getting a £100 cash prize and the profits going to maintaining our boats and developing our main and youth sections. Over £1000 was raised in this way, with the winner being a friend of one of our members.

In addition, we were joined both on the rowing machines and on the pavement outside by volunteers from the Portishead and Bristol Lifeboat, raising an additional £382 for them in donations from public.

All in all a great day in every way. And the final distance? 305,505 metres.
