A great event in breezy and occasionally sunny conditions in Lyme, Clevedon once again drew questions as to how big the town is as we were the largest club, with 47 rowers plus various other friends and family.

The event was a knockout format, with short 1200m races. Two heats rowed out, with the top four boats in each race going into a semi final. The top four in each semi final went into the final later in the day. There were slightly longer single vets' races and the course was also extended a little for the final.

In the main races, the club acquitted ourselves well with four of our six crews (Mens' A & C, Ladies' A & B) making the semi-finals, both A crews narrowly missing out on places in the final and a couple of closely fought victories over a certain local rival club. In the vets' races both men and ladies put in good performances despite not having rowed much together. With various club members taking up spare spaces in other boats, we also extended our links with the rest of the Gig community.

A large contingent retired to a beach-side pub for post-race drinks and fish and chips – a good day all in all.
